The congress theme for this year is "Embarking on the New Century: The Future of Morita Therapy is Here." I have two intentions behind this theme. The first is for us to formally celebrate the past century in the history of Morita therapy. The second is for us to envision our new century.

Back in 2007, the 6th International Congress of Morita Therapy was held here in Vancouver, chaired by Dr. Ishu Ishiyama (University of British Columbia). The Congress theme of the 6th was "Future of Morita Therapy: Multidimensional Understanding and Application of Morita Therapy."

Since the 6th Congress, 16 years have passed. If we consider the "future" of Morita therapy envisioned by our predecessors "then" to be "now," where and how are we positioned? What has and has not changed? What advancements and regressions have we made? Are there any unidentified, untouched, unaddressed, or incomplete tasks that we have yet to address? When we look into our "further future," the new century, what challenges and issues should we be focusing on now? What directions should we take for our future?

I hope to join forces with our colleagues from around the globe to weave together our past, present, and future to address these key issues of our time.

今学会のテーマとして、「いざ新世紀へ:森田療法のその未来が今」を掲げまし た。この開催テーマには2つの意図があります。一つ目は、森田療法における 過去100年の歴史を「祝う」ことです。二つ目は、私たちの新しい未来、1 00年を「創像」することです。

2007年、石山一舟大会長(ブリティッシュコロンビア大学)のもと、同じ くカナダ・バンクーバーにおいて第6回国際森田療法学会が開催されました。 その際のテーマが、「森田療法の未来:森田療法の多面的理解と応用」であり ました。第6回大会から16年が経とうとしています。私たちの先人たちが 「当時」に想像した森田療法の「未来」が「今」であるとすれば、私たちはど のような「立ち位置」に在るべきなのでしょうか?何が変わり、どのような進 歩と後退があったのでしょうか?どのような未解決、未着手、未対処、未完了 の課題が我々には残されているのでしょうか?そしてさらなる未来、新しい新 世紀を見据えると、私たちは今、どのような課題や問題に焦点を当てるべきな のでしょうか?またどのような方向性を進んでいくべきなのでしょうか?

今学会テーマのもと時空(とき)を超え、世代、国境、学術領域までも超え、私 たちの過去、現在、未来を織り交し、意義深い活発な議論が行われますことを 期待しています。
